Is a short sitting less serious?
A short sitting you can paraphrase is a finished sitting. A long sitting you cannot remember is not more serious.
Practice
Ten minutes is enough to read one paragraph twice and write one sentence. It is not enough to finish a letter or to catch up a missed week, and it does not need to be. Scripture Journey’s support page says a sermon study has no streak to break. A short sitting fails only if you pretend you read more than you read. Bookmark the verse you stopped on. The next sitting starts there.
Open to the bookmark, not to a random inspiring page. If you have no bookmark, open the sermon’s passage or the next chapter you already named.
Read the paragraph. Close it. Say one sentence. Write that sentence with the reference. Stop.
Skip the cross-reference list, the commentary tab, and the urge to choose a new plan. Those are other sittings.
Skip catching up by skimming. Skimmed chapters are not read chapters. The one-chapter guide is for a longer chair.
Day 1 on the web is allowed to be the whole sitting. You can come back for the rest of the week in the app later. The five-day guide says the days can be one sitting or several.
Write “stopped after Day 1” if that is true. The page will still be there.
A short sitting you can paraphrase is a finished sitting. A long sitting you cannot remember is not more serious.
Hear one paragraph, or read one paragraph before you get out of the car. Do not play an hour you will not attend to and call it the chapter.
