The Dream Before the Proof

Going deeper on Roosevelt Stewart's sermon at Transformation Church (Tulsa, OK).

Week of Aug 30, 2026

Day 1 · FreeGenesis 37:1-11

First Impressions

What do you do with a dream nobody else believes?

Joseph is seventeen years old, wearing a coat his dad gave him that basically tells his older brothers, "You work the fields, but he's got something else coming." That coat alone was already a problem. Then Joseph goes and makes it worse. He has a dream — bundles of wheat bowing down to his bundle — and instead of keeping it to himself, he walks straight up to the brothers who already hate him and tells them about it. Then he has a second dream, even bigger this time. The sun, the moon, and eleven stars bowing down to him. And he tells that one too, this time in front of his father.

His brothers can't stand him after that. His dad, Jacob, actually pulls him aside and questions him. But here's the detail people skip past: verse 11 says his brothers were jealous, but his father kept the matter in mind. Jacob didn't throw the dream away. He tucked it somewhere in the back of his heart, even while he wasn't sure what to do with it.

That's usually how it goes when God shows you something about your future. It rarely lines up with where you currently are, and it almost never lands well the first time you say it out loud. Maybe you've sensed something about who you're becoming — a calling, a shift, a version of your life that doesn't match your bank account or your resume or what your family expects from you. It can feel almost embarrassing to say it, because saying it out loud makes the gap between now and then feel so much bigger. But a dream from God isn't about where you are. It's a memory of where you're headed, planted early so you'll recognize it when it finally shows up. You don't have to have it figured out today. You just have to be honest that you have it.

Sit with this

  1. 1What's something you feel like God has shown you about your future that hasn't happened yet, and how does it feel to sit with that gap right now?

Journal prompt

Write about a time you sensed God showing you something about your future — through a dream, a strong hunch, a verse that wouldn't leave you alone, or someone's words over you. Describe it in detail. Has any piece of it started to come true yet?
