First Impressions
When heaven opens a window
John is stuck on an island. Not the vacation kind — the prison kind. Patmos was where Rome sent people they wanted to forget about. John's crime? Following Jesus. He's hammering rocks all day, breathing dust, watching his body break down. And he's not even old yet — he's got decades of ministry behind him, walking with Jesus, seeing miracles, leading churches. Now he's here.
Then something shifts. "After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven." A door. Standing open. Not cracked. Not locked. Not guarded. Open. And a voice — loud as a trumpet — says, "Come up here."
This is the invitation that changes everything. Not an invitation to escape Patmos. John's still on the island. The rocks are still there. His circumstances haven't budged. But now he can see through a window into what's really going on. He can see past the hard stuff to what's true in heaven while he's still dealing with what's hard on earth.
That's the invitation for you today too. Whatever your Patmos is — the relationship that's breaking your heart, the diagnosis that won't go away, the financial pressure that keeps you up at night, the kid who's making choices you can't fix — the door is open. You're invited to come up here. To see what God sees. To remember what's true even when life feels like it's falling apart.
The door isn't open because your circumstances are easy. It's open because they're hard. And knowing God is there — really there, really in charge, really aware — changes how you walk through every hard thing.
