Taking Possession of the Kingdom

Going deeper on Kris Vallotton's sermon at Bethel Church (Redding) (Redding, CA).

Week of Jul 12, 2026

Day 1 · FreeDaniel 7:9-14

First Impressions

A vision of thrones, fire, and a kingdom given to unlikely people

Daniel had a dream that would change everything. Picture this: thrones being set up, the Ancient of Days taking his seat, his clothes white as snow, his hair like wool. Fire everywhere—his throne ablaze, wheels burning, a river of fire flowing out. Thousands upon thousands serving him. The court sits. Books open.

Then Daniel sees something that doesn't make sense at first. Someone "like a son of man"—not a divine figure riding clouds of glory, but someone who looks human—comes before the Ancient of Days. And this human-looking one is given dominion, glory, and a kingdom. Not just any kingdom. An everlasting one that will never be destroyed.

Here's what's wild: when Daniel asks an angel what this means, the angel says, "Oh, that son of man? That's the saints of the Most High." Wait, what? The vision shows one person receiving a kingdom, but the interpretation says it's actually about regular people—saints—receiving that same kingdom.

This isn't a vision about watching God do something from the sidelines. It's about you being invited into the action. The "son of man" language is deliberately human. It's saying that God's plan involves everyday people—people like you—being given authority, glory, and a kingdom that lasts forever. Not because you're special on your own, but because God decided to share his throne with his kids.

What stood out to you when you first read this passage? Did anything surprise you about who gets the kingdom?

Sit with this

  1. 1If someone told you that you've been given a kingdom, what would your first reaction be—excitement, confusion, or disbelief?

Journal prompt

Write about a time when you felt like you were just watching from the sidelines instead of participating in something important. How does it feel to think God might be inviting you into something bigger?
